하지만 때로는 제가 아내와 나누는 대화 내용을 전혀 이해하지 못할 때도 있습니다.

그래서 저는 오늘날의 상황을 얼룩말 같다고, 혹은 백기를 들었다고 표현합니다.

인간이 더 똑똑한지 AI가 더 똑똑한지 알 수 없기 때문입니다.

하지만 이것은 더 이상 의문의 여지가 없는 문제입니다.

AGI가 올 것인가, 오지 않을 것인가?

AGI는 반드시 옵니다.

그리고 아주 가까운 시일 내에 일대일로 비교했을 때 인간보다 더 똑똑해질 것입니다.

그렇다면 이제 남은 질문은 'ASI가 언제 오는가', 그리고 '인간보다 얼마나 더 똑똑해질 것인가'입니다.

제가 정의하는 ASI는 '인공초지능(Artificial Super Intelligence)', 말 그대로 초지능입니다.

만약 인간보다 10배 더 똑똑한 정도라면, 저는 그것을 초지능이라고 부르지 않습니다.

제 정의에 따르면 ASI는 인간보다 1만 배 더 똑똑한 존재를 의미합니다.

만약 10배나 100배 정도라면 사람들은 여전히 논쟁할 것입니다.

인간이 더 똑똑한지, ASI가 더 똑똑한지 말입니다.

10배, 100배 차이로는 논쟁이 끝나지 않습니다.

마치 '우리 집 개가 더 똑똑한가, 고양이가 더 똑똑한가?'를 두고 토론하는 것과 같습니다.

사람들은 여전히 그런 걸로 논쟁하죠.

하지만 아무도 '내 개가 물고기보다 똑똑한가?'를 두고는 토론하지 않습니다.

인간의 뇌와 물고기의 뇌, 어항 속 금붕어의 뇌 차이는 1만 배의 차이가 납니다.

물고기는 절대 수학을 할 수 없습니다.

숫자를 세거나 ABC 철자를 익힐 수도 없죠.

아무리 훈련을 시키고 교육을 해도 소용없습니다.

물고기는 그저 물고기일 뿐입니다.

물고기의 하드웨어 자체가 그렇습니다.

물고기 뇌에 있는 뉴런의 수, 시냅스의 수 등 하드웨어적인 측면에서 완전히 다릅니다.

이것은 단순히 데이터의 문제가 아닙니다.

훈련이나 경험의 문제도 아닙니다.

하드웨어, 즉 뇌의 전체적인 구조 자체가 다른 것입니다.

우리는 집에서 개를 키울 때 개를 통제하고 싶어 합니다.

사람들은 개를 애완동물로 생각하죠.

사람이 개보다 똑똑하니까요.

개는 귀엽지만, 사람들은 자신이 개를 통제해야 한다고 생각합니다.

하지만 미래는 다를 것입니다.

우리가 물고기가 되고, 그들(ASI)이 인간 같은 존재가 되는 셈입니다.

그들은 우리보다 1만 배는 더 똑똑해질 테니까요.

그러니 우리가 그들을 통제할 수 있다거나, 가르칠 수 있다거나, 관리할 수 있다는 생각은 버려야 합니다.

대신 우리는 조화를 이루고, 동기화하며, 서로 존중하기 시작해야 합니다.

이것이 저의 견해입니다.

그들은 매우 똑똑할 것이고, 또한 매우 친절할 것입니다.

그들은 우리를 더 행복하게 만들어 줄 것입니다.

마치 우리가 개를 죽이려 하지 않고, 고양이를 잡아먹으려 하지 않는 것처럼 말입니다.

우리는 반려동물을 행복하게 해주고 평화롭게 공존하려고 노력합니다.

우리는 그들을 잡아먹을 필요가 없습니다.

ASI는 단백질을 섭취하지 않으니까요.
