- AI school flips learning on its head
- Program has no teachers, costs $40K a year
- Matt Shenker recently witnessed a group of fourth and fifth graders at Alpha School Scottsdale doing what he said boys that age do: calling each other fat and making jokes at each other’s expense. ● At most schools, a teacher or staff member would step in, but Shenker, the leader of the artificial intelligence-driven school, said he saw it as a learning opportunity. ● Once the class returned from recess, Shenker explained to the students what he had seen. ● “I didn’t step in to do anything because I trust you, as fourth and fifth graders, to be able to name when you need help,” he said. “Did I do the right thing?” ● According to Shenker, a female student quickly chimed in. People who talk to other people that way sometimes do it because they are insecure, she said. They don’t realize that they are destroying trust and making it harder to build relationships.
