- When tragedy hit, this grandma helped teens heal
- Peggy Winckowski carries on grandson’s breakfast club
- At 4 a.m. every Wednesday, Peggy Winckowski wakes up to make breakfast. She reminds her husband, Bill, to stay in bed and she gets ready. “I don’t walk out of that bathroom without my face on,” she says. “I’m going to have my earrings on. I’m going to go out like today and every day is a party.” ● Then she starts to cook. Eight to 10 pounds of bacon. Four dozen eggs. Piles of pancakes, or sometimes French toast casserole or monkey bread. ● At 7:15, a horde of teenagers arrives. They tromp in, past the memory garden out front, the sign above the door that declares she’s the mayor of the street, and the cheery lemon-tree wallpaper inside. High schoolers in every grade from Bishop Du Bourg, a Catholic school in southwest St. Louis, fill their plates and settle in.
- ABOVE: Peggy Winckowski’s weekly breakfasts unexpectedly grew into the beloved Wednesday Breakfast Club, where many teens came for homemade meals.

- The Lone Star state is making a play to form its own economic nation-state with an unabashedly ‘anti-woke’ and pro-CEO bent.
