Adding money to Revolut account with local bank transfers without the need for a credit or debit card!

Thank you for using Revolut and shaping the Revolut community in Japan!

We have been working hard to provide more options to add money for our customers in Japan and today we're officially introducing virtual reference numbers* which allows you to add money directly to your Revolut account via local bank transfers!

Simply use your virtual reference number details on Revolut for the payee details and you're good to go. Please note that your bank might incur bank transfer fees. Revolut won’t cover such transfer fees incurred by your bank. Please refer to your bank’s terms of use for more information.

How to add money to your Revolut account via bank transfers

1. Make sure to update your Revolut app to the latest version.
2. Head to the Home screen in your Revolut App, and click the Japan flag icon on the upper right of screen.
3. You will see a virtual number associated with your Revolut wallet.
4. Transfer funds from your own Japanese bank account into Revolut by entering your virtual reference number details.
5. When you input your virtual reference number details, make sure to enter “REVOLUT” as the beneficiary of the transfer, otherwise it will be rejected. Some banks may ask you to enter katakana, but you can and should enter the beneficiary name “REVOLUT” in Roman alphabet to process transfers without issues.
6. It currently takes 1-2 working days until it reflects on your Revolut balance.

What your Revolut account details CAN be used for

• Add money from any Japanese bank without the need for a credit or debit card going forward!
• No longer restricted by limitations of credit/prepaid monetization when transferring or withdrawing money.

What your Revolut account details CANNOT be used for

• Right now, you cannot send money to Japanese banks. Your Revolut account details are limited to receiving money via local bank transfers in Japanese Yen only.
• There is a limit of JPY 1,000,000 per transfer. Any transfer above that limit will be rejected.
• You won’t be able to use these account details for making direct debits (e.g. automatic monthly utility bills).
